Jake and Theo's Duologue
(Jake is sat playing guitar with his cap placed in front of him to
collect coins. Theo walks by and places a few coins in.)
Theo: How come?
Theo: That's actually really good that.
Jake: Ah thank you. That's my first shilling today.Theo: How come?
Jake: I don't know. I guess you're the only one who cares
about the poor man playing guitar.
Theo: (Begins walking
off) Don't I know you from somewhere?
Jake: I don't think so.
Theo: (Walking off) Sommervile.
Jake: Err yes that's my name. Charles Sommervile, but everyone
calls me Charlie.
Theo: Yes Charles Sommervile, I had patient with that name.
Jake: Yes it was my girlfriend. She had the flu but she's
all fine now though.
Theo: Ah. That's all good then. So, how are you keeping up
then?
Jake: Things are good. I'm Charlie by the way.
Theo: Mark
Jake: Things are going great really, I actually plan on
getting married to my girlfriend- this Friday actually.
Theo: Really, that's-wow! How long have you been together?
Jake: Oh, let's see...since early of 1959 really. 4 years
now.
Theo: Well, good for you.
Jake: I'm doing all of this to try and get her that special
gift that she wants.
Theo: Well here, here's some more, put it towards that special
gift.
Jake: Thank you sir, that really means a lot to me.
Theo: I'm glad your girlfriend has made a full recovery; I
hope she's looking forward to Friday.
Jake: She is. I am more though. How are you though? How's
things with you?
Theo: Oh it's er, a bit slow, I don't have much time for a
social life but that's what my work does to ya.
Jake: I know that feeling don't worry.
Theo: Do you know, the more I come to think of it, when
you're girlfriend came in I don't recall her coming in with just a cold. I
thought it was something a little bit more serious.
(Pause)
Jake: You're a doctor aren't you?
Theo: Mhmm
Jake: I can't hide stuff from you. You know what happened
don't you.
Theo: A little bit yes
(Pause)
Jake: It, It was cancer she died of. Erm, I tried to make
most of the things but, but she just kept getting worse really. I was, I was
always there for her but my support just wasn't good enough for her. It was
this week on Friday when she, she passed away. (Gets emotional) And I just, I, (Tears up) I, I just miss her everyday and I just, I just can't
seem to go on in my life without her, she meant the world to me.
