Improvisation Games
- The Fighting Cocks; A game to develop facility of improvisation. In pairs, one person accuses the other of having done something wrong. The other person has to defend themselves and justify their actions, in the process creating a character.
- The Name Game; Standing in a circle, each person introduces themselves in any way they choose, moving and speaking within the centre of the circle. Everybody then goes in and imitates the presentation as accurately as possible. Repeat so that the movement/speech is more individually adventurous and inventive.
- Introductory Improvisations; Standing in a circle, one person volunteers to be in the middle. A further six volunteers ( we will use four further volunteers) are selected to participate in the exercise. In turn, each person must create a new situation for the volunteer in the middle to spontaneously respond to and improvise from as one volunteer enters and the other exits. With each new person there should be an immediate change of situation, which challenges the middle volunteer to relate and react to a new set of circumstances.
- A Prop's Story; A prop is placed in the middle of the stage and each actor has to creatively react to create storyline to do with their character and the prop. Obviously as each character enters to react to the prop and create story.
- A Short Story; A random scenery is chosen, i.e; Park, canteen, bus and an actor must enter the stage as if they are enter the chosen scenery. They then create a story to do with their character in that scenery, after they've performed a section of their devised piece another actor must enter as their character and follow on from their story but as their own character to develop it.
- One word story; The group sit in a circle and create a story by only using 1-5 words each as they take it in turns around the circle.
- A Hundred Question; The group have 5 minutes to ask the volunteer 100 hundred questions about their character and they have to think on the spot to answer them.
